Semantic noises are the unintended meanings aroused by certain symbols. Whether internal, external or semantic, a noise remains a major factor that results in no communication or an imperfect communication.

For successful business communication, it is very essential that the sender and the receiver stand at the same level of understanding. This means that the symbols used by the sender should have essentially the same meaning in both, the sender’s and the receiver’s minds. Each person’s mental filter is different from other’s. To avoid misunderstanding of communication it is necessary that the sender and the receiver take a common view of a situation. It is important that the sender has a perception of the receiver’s world of reality. This will help him in taking an objective viewpoint of the situation, and thus minimizing the possibility of miscommunication.
- DIFFERENCE IN VALUES, ATTITUDES AND OPINIONS
The most important feature of successful communication is to adapt the message to the views and mental filters of the recipient. The effectiveness of communication depends to a great extent on the values, attitudes and opinions of the communicators. One should not forget that every person and every organization has a unique filter that always affects their response. They are likely to react favorably when the message received by them matches their viewpoint. Their response may be otherwise if the message is contrary to it. It is, therefore, very important that both the senders and receivers have a mutual consideration of each other’s values, attitudes and opinions.
- DIFFERENCE IN SOCIAL AND CULTURAL BEHAVIOUR
Social and cultural background also plays a very strong role in determining viewpoints of people. Stereotyping means to have generalized perceptions of others. It is a fact that communication is seriously affected by stereotyped impressions. Sometimes communicators ignore individual differences between persons and organizations. They view and treat all persons and all organizations alike, identifying them as belonging to a general group. This type o! treatment always runs the risk of distorting reality which in turn affects the results Of communication.
- GENDER DIFFERENCES
Every individual has an independent personality with distinct abilities, traits and dispositions. No two persons can be alike in their mental filters.
